The body has been taken to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy
Police recovered the body of a 40-year-old woman from the Green Road area in Dhaka. Police suspected it to be a murder.
The deceased was identified as Momena Khatun, hailing from Sherpur. Other details about her identity are yet to be traced.
Police later arrested the murderer Ansar Ali, 50, a security guard of the building, who allegedly killed the woman for refusing his advances.
Kalabagan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Poritosh Chandra told Dhaka Tribune that they recovered the body with several injury marks, from beside the World University of Bangladesh on Friday morning.
"We have taken it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. We are investigating the matter and are also in the process of checking footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity for clues," he added.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (Ramna zone) Mishu Biswas said that they started investing right after the body was recovered and collected some close circuit camera footages from adjacent buildings.
Analyzing the footage, detectives found that one of a building’s security guard Ansar Ali dumped the body there at night. Police then interrogated the security guard and he confessed to the murder.
Mishu said that Ansar used to live at the ground floor of the building and had been working in the building for over seven years.
He wanted to have physical relations with the woman, who refused and that prompted Ansar to attack her.
At one point of the altercation, Ansar pushed Momena against the wall inside a bathroom on the ground floor when she hit her head and lost consciousness.
Ansar strangled her to death and later dumped the body around 2:00am.
