Dr Momen: Bangladesh benefits from Chinese medical team

Bangladeshi doctors and medical technicians have immensely benefited from the experience of the Chinese team, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Wednesday.

In a video conference with the members of the Chinese medical team and doctors in Dhaka, Chattagram and Sylhet, he also said that the people of Bangladesh would certainly remember the services provided by the team with gratitude.

Describing the contributions of the Chinese special Covid-19 team, which arrived in Bangladesh on June 8, as invaluable, Dr Momen said the success of China in combating coronavirus had made it a role model in preventing a further aggravation of the situation.

Bangladesh is also taking a cue from the Chinese experience to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

As the menacing COVID-19 had now become a global issue, initiatives needed to be taken to enhance international cooperation to fight the fatal disease, he added. 

"We are thankful to you and the people of China for your support in standing by the people of Bangladesh during this critical time of the corona pandemic," said the foreign minister. 

It was certainly a very friendly gesture of the people and the government of China, he said. 

Dr Momen further said, "As our government remains deeply engaged in containing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, your support will go a long way in a detection of cases as well as providing protection to our medical professionals."
