The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested eight people, with domestic weapons in their possession, as they were preparing for a robbery in Dhaka's Mohammadpur agricultural market area.

RAB-2 Company Commander SP Mohiuddin Faruki, who confirmed the arrests, said that acting on a tip-off, the elite force conducted the raid at the Mohammadpur agricultural market area on Wednesday night at around 10:30pm.
The arrestees are Tipu, 26, Tousif, 19, Sanu, 25, Abid Hossain, 35, Arif Hossain, 35, Abdur Rahman, 19, Sumon, 15, and Chunna, 15.
The RAB team recovered two ramda (a sharp local weapon), one machete, four knives, 550 pieces of yaba pills and five mobile phones, added Faruki.
The accused told them in primary interrogation that they were members of an organized crime ring. Their occupation is robbery, snatching, stealing and looting. They were all born in the Geneva camp.
They also revealed that they regularly targeted freight trucks, covered vans and pick-up trucks that come to the Mohammadpur agricultural market, and loot everything from the vehicles.
Furthermore, all of them admitted to being drug addicts. They buy and consume drugs with the money earned from robbery, snatching and stealing.
Among the accused, two were juvenile offenders, said Faruki.
Three separate cases have been filed against the accused at Mohammadpur Police Station on charges of preparations for robbery and possession of weapons and drugs, he added.
