The government has already provided food relief to about 64.4 million people
The government is continuing relief distribution across the country as part of its humanitarian assistance to reduce people’s sufferings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the information received from the district administrations of 64 districts, around 201,417 tons of rice have been allocated as relief, while 163,898 tons have been distributed as of June 5, reports BSS.
The government has already provided food relief to about 64.4 million people of about 14.5 million families across the country, as per an official hand-out issued on Saturday.
The government has so far allocated more than Tk116 crore in cash as relief for distribution.
Of the total amount, Tk91,13,72,264 has been allocated as cash assistance and Tk76,37,53,561 has already been distributed among about 38.6 million people of about 8.65 million families across the country.
Moreover, Tk25.54 crore was allocated for baby food aid while about Tk20.54 crore has already been distributed among about 1.361 million people of about 0.65 million families across the country.
After 66 days of lockdown, Bangladesh resumed operation of all offices, business and transport on a limited scale on may 31, even though the spread of Covid-19 in the country shows no sign of slowing down.
As many as 63,026 people have tested positive for coronavirus infection in the country, while 846 have died of it.
First reported in China’s Wuhan, coronavirus has spread across the globe and has affected 215 countries and territories. According to worldometer, it has infected 6,869,136 people throughout the world, and killed 398,587.
