Microbiology laboratory in-charge of Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease (BITID) Dr Shakeel Ahmed has been diagnosed with Covid-19.
BITID Director Professor Dr MA Hassan confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
“Dr Shakeel Ahmed has been tested positive for Covid-19. His sample was tested at BITID laboratory on Tuesday and it came out positive,” said Prof Dr Hassan.
“Dr Shakeel, also the head of Microbiology Department of the BITID, is now taking treatment at his home. He is doing well,” added the BITID Director.
He had been feeling unwell for a couple of days. But he continued to do his job of testing samples. On Tuesday, he decided to test his own sample and it came out to be positive for Covid-19, he added.
“For the last few days, I was making headlines for various reasons. I have not wanted to be a news item myself. So far, I have fought with coronavirus from outside. Now it’s time to fight from within. Please pray for me so that I can overcome the adversary and carry on with the struggle,” said Dr Shakeel in his Facebook account on Wednesday.
Coronavirus has so far infected 38,292 people and killed 544 people in Bangladesh.
