Most of them died on Monday
At least nine people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in five districts between Sunday night and Monday, while the country went into holiday mode on Eid-ul-Fitr amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In Dhaka, three people were killed and six others injured in a crash at the capital’s Kalyanpur area on Sunday night.
Police sources said that the accident occurred when two private cars and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on, leaving three dead on the spot, reports BSS.
The bodies were later recovered and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsies.
In Tangail, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Sakhipur and Gopalpur upazilas on Monday, reports our correspondent Abdullah Al Numan.
At Sakhipur, a teenager was killed and two others injured after a motorcycle lost control and collided with a brick wall in Shalgrampur area.
The deceased was identified as Saddam Hossain, 16, who died on the spot after sustaining a severe head injury, said Sakhipur police OC AHM Lutful Kabir.
At Gopalpur, a transport worker was killed after his motorcycle collided head-on with another motorcycle in Shamsherpur area.
Gopalpur police OC Md Mostafizur Rahman identified the deceased as Eshak Ali, a local leader of transport workers.
In Pirojpur, a madrasa student was killed after his motorcycle collided with a tree on the Pirojpur-Najirpur road near the Chouthamahal bus stand area on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam Hridoy, reports our correspondent Arif Mostofa.
Tomalika Karmakar, the duty doctor of Najirpur Upazila Health Complex, said Saiful died from excessive blood loss following a critical head trauma. "He was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital."
In Chuadanga, a man was killed and two others were injured in another head-on collision between motorcycles in Alamdanga upazila.
Police identified the deceased as Rasheduzzaman Tokon, 28, reports UNB.
In Madaripur, two people were also killed in separate but similar accidents involving motorcycles in different upazilas, police confirmed.
The deceased were identified as Ali Sardar, 30, and Md Dalim Sheikh, 28, reports our correspondent Monjur Hasan.
In Shibchar upazila, Dalim lost control of his motorcycle and it collided with a pole on the Dhaka-Khulna Expressway in Bandarkhola area. He died on the spot.
In Sadar upazila, Ali Sardar died from critical injuries which he sustained after his motorcycle collided with an electric pole in Iterpul area.
