The pass will be available through registration online
Amid the shutdown of public transport and restriction on movements in the Covid-19 outbreak, the police will issue “movement pass” for emergencies.
Movement pass is a special pass, available through registration, to travel somewhere without any hindrance from law enforcement officials.
The project is still under process and on trial, Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (AIG-media) at Bangladesh Police Headquarters, told Dhaka Tribune.
"People who neet to run errands for daily essentials, or go out for emergencies, will be given this pass," AIG Sohel Rana said.
"We have developed an app, which is currently going through a trial at field level. After using and examining it, our field-level officers will inform us about its pros and cons," he added. "If this system proves to be beneficial for the people, we will release it for public use very soon."
The initiative is being supervised by the ICT department of police.
A website named “movementpass.police.gov.bd” has already been launched through, which people would be able to register under 14 categories to avail the pass — funeral, medicine, medication, carrying agriculture goods, job, etc.
Service holders have to provide the name of their residential area, where they will travel to and from where.
One pass will have a time limit of about 10 hours and will cover a single trip, meaning two passes will be needed for a round trip.
To register on the website and to get a one-time password (OTP), a valid national ID, a driving licence, passport or student ID card will be required.
After completing registration, a person would be provided with a pass with a QR code through which the police personnel can verify the pass at different check points.
