Police ordered to reinforce curbs on inter-district movement
Citizens who wanted to travel to hometowns for the Eid-ul-Fitr will have to scrap their plans as law-enforcers will not allow inter-district travel amid the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Bangladesh Police chief.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed’s instructions to all police units came on Sunday while addressing a video conference.
No one can leave or enter Dhaka until further instruction from the government, he said before directing units across the country to curb inter-district movements.
He also instructed to ensure that all shopping malls and markets are kept open in compliance with health guidelines to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.
On Sunday, Bangladesh reported 1,273 new Covid-19 cases, the highest daily spike as of now, taking the total number of infections to 22,268 since the first cases were reported on Mar 8. The death toll now stands at 328.
