Citizens asked to avoid large scale Eid congregations

Government officials will also not be allowed to leave their stations during the Eid holidays

The government has urged all to avoid holding large Eid-ut-Fitr congregations in open spaces amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The announcement came through a gazette notification on Thursday, which also extended the ongoing general holiday till May 30.

The gazette also mentioned that during the holidays, movement of people will be restricted from one upazila to another. Government officials will also not be allowed to leave their duty stations during the period.

An additional gazette will be published later detailing further instructions on holding Eid congregations while maintaining social distancing.

Every year, the city corporations and district administrations organize the central Eid congregations at across the country. However, that would not be the case this year amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already instructed not organize the main congregation at the National Eidgah on the premises of the Supreme Court. The congregation at the South Plaza of the National Parliament will not be held also this year.

President Abdul Hamid, who attends the main congregation at the National Eidgah every year, will offer his prayers at a mosque inside Bangabhaban.
