Around 50 social media accounts have already been sent to BTRC for action
Police are keeping close watch on around 82 social media accounts, pages and sites over their alleged involvement in spreading rumours about coronavirus.
Police headquarters’ Assistant Inspector General (media and PR) Md. Sohel Rana, confirming the matter, said, “We are working to identify and locate people involved in spreading rumours from 82 social media accounts, pages and sites”.
Around 50 social media accounts have already been sent to BTRC for action to be taken against them, he added.
He also said that police had arrested people in Chandpur, Khagrachhari, Chittagong, Dhaka and Kishoregonj over allegations of spreading rumours. However, he could not specify the number of arrests.
Operations were on to arrest some others accused of spreading rumours, he said.
