Arrested Zafar Ahmed is a regional manager of Dutch Bangla Bank Limited
Police have detained a senior official of a private bank for making sexually violent and obscene remarks on social media against Sayeema Hasan, withdrawn assistant commissioner (Land) of Manirampur, Jessore.
Detainee Zafar Ahmed is a regional manager of Dutch Bangla Bank Limited, confirmed Mohammad Shahjahan, assistant deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of police, on Sunday.
He said Zafar has been sent to Jessore following his detention in the capital's Jatrabari area.
Jessore police said a case will be filed against Zafar under the Digital Security Act 2018.
In a Facebook post, Zafar made sexually violent comments against Sayeema who recently drew flak and huge public criticism for her behavior with two local elderly men in Manirampur upazila in Jessore during the countrywide soft lockdown -- which is in currently place to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
Zafar remarked that Sayeema should be "raped until she is dead."
"She (Assistant Commissioner) should be raped and killed in quarantine,' Zafar commented.
In addition, he also used crude and sexually offensive language to denigrate Sayeema.
The senior bank official made the comments on a Facebook news link.
Sayeema, who conducted mobile court hearings in different parts of Jessore on Friday, was seen forcing two elderly men in Manirampur to pull their ears as a form of punishment for failing to wear masks in the government imposed social distancing measure for the coronavirus outbreak.
She was also seen recording the episode on her mobile phone.
The photograph of the incident went viral on Facebook, drawing severe criticism from netizens with many demanding Sayeema be brought to book for her actions.
The government subsequently withdrew Sayeema and attached her to the Khulna Divisional Commissioner’s Office.
