Bangladesh should follow the model of Taiwan that managed to fight coronavirus despite being located beside China
Terming coronavirus a “national enemy”, the High Court (HC) on Wednesday said the only way to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 is to put the country under lockdown.
The court said everyone will have to jointly fight against the virus just like they did in the Liberation War and urged the people to keep faith in the Prime Minister and the government and follow their instructions, reports UNB.
Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir's bench came up with the observation after disposing a writ petition seeking establishment of coronavirus testing laboratories across the country.
Advocate Humayun Kabir Pallab filed the writ petition on March 18.
Bangladesh should follow the model of Taiwan that managed to fight coronavirus despite being located beside China, HC said.
As COVID-19 is a global crisis and a vaccine is yet to be discovered, only measure would be to lock down the country, the court said.
Till date, Bangladesh recorded five deaths and 39 infections from the Covid-19 pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has claimed more than 18,800 lives and infected over 422,600 people across the world till date, according to Worldometer.
More than 108,000 people have recovered from the virus which has spread to 196 countries.
