The Bangla calendar has been adjusted in accordance to historical dates of Bangladesh
Pohela Falgun will now be celebrated on Valentine's Day, February 14, instead of February 13 due to the changes made in the Bangla calendar.
Bangla Academy Research, Compilation, Dictionary and Encyclopaedia Department Director Mobarak Hossain said the adjustments in the Bangla calendar have been made in accordance to historical dates of Bangladesh --February 21, 1952, March 26, 1971 and December 16, 1971.
Kazi Narul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversaries are also taken into consideration, he added.
According to the adjusted calendar, the Bangla month of Falgun will have 30 days instead of 29 when it is a leap year in the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, the Bangla New Year will start from April 14, like the past years.
