6 suspected Ansar al-Islam members arrested

RAB detains them in Dhaka and Satkhira

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six alleged operatives of the banned militant outfit, Ansar al-Islam, in Dhaka, Gazipur, and Satkhira.

RAB detained them while conducting drives in Gazipur, Uttara in Dhaka, and Shyamnagar in Satkhira, Mozammel Haque, commanding officer (CO) of RAB 4 shared the information in a press briefing in Dhaka on Saturday.

The detainees are Shofikul Islam, 21; Ilias Haqlader, 32; Ikramul Islam, 21; Amir Hossain, 26; Shipon Mir, 33; and Md Waliullah, 25.  

The CO of RAB 4 also told the press that they could not nab all the culprits as some managed to flee during the raid.

RAB claimed that in the preliminary interrogation they confessed to their involvement with the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam.

The RAB found books, leaflets, laptops, and phones containing information relating to the banned Ansar al- Islam.

RAB disclosed that Amir Hossain was the admin of six facebook pages, disseminating extremist content on the digital platform.

Mozammel Haque said: “The law enforcers nabbed the six criminals in Uttara as they were planning to conduct an attack.”
