He says 50,000 tons of onions are expected to arrive from Egypt
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said onion prices are not likely to go below Tk100 per kg in the near future.
He made the remark while speaking to the media at a hotel in Rangpur Metropolitan area on Friday.
He said: “The prices might go down after the locally produced onion hits the market at the end of this month.
“It is very unlikely that onion prices would decrease before that.”
The minister further said 50,000 tons of onions are expected to arrive from Egypt, following which prices might go down slightly.
“It is pointless to import onions from India as prices there is around Tk80 per kg at this moment,” he said.
