Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon all to contribute in the humanitarian activities like voluntary blood donation and posthumous eye donation all across Bangladesh.
She made the call on the eve of ‘National Voluntary Blood Donation and Posthumous Eye Donation Day-2019,' on Friday.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said all including national, international and private organizations should participate in the humanitarian activities like Shandhani (non-government voluntary organization), reports BSS.
Mentioning the contribution of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said Bangabandhu realized the importance of safe blood that is why he established ‘Blood Refinance Department’ at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) [then PG Hospital] in 1972.
Mentioning that Bangabandhu had promulgated Blind Relief (Donation of Eye) Act in 1975 to solve the problem of blindness in Bangladesh, she said, the present government has established National Eye Science Institute, Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute in Gopalganj.
“Transplantation of Human Organs Act-2018 has also been formulated under the present government’s tenure so that we can protect people against blindness,” she added.
