A record 51,476 people have been hospitalized with dengue so far this year, according to data provided by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room said around 1,460 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in 24 hours till 8am on Saturday, taking the total number of dengue patients this year to 51,476.
Among the new patients, 621 were admitted to hospitals in the capital, while 839 patients were admitted to hospitals outside Dhaka.
The DGHS also said 85% of the patients (43,580 people) have already been released from their respective hospitals, and clinics after being given treatment.
The total number of patients currently undergoing treatment at government, and private hospitals is 7,856, according to the DGHS.
This includes 4,043 patients at 41 hospitals in Dhaka, and 3,813 patients at hospitals outside Dhaka.
Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) identified a total of 40 patients who have died across Bangladesh from January 1 to August 17. However, the unofficial death toll so far is reported to be 98.
The number of new cases recorded in 2019 includes 38 in January, 18 in February, 17 in March, 58 in April, 193 in May, 1884 in June.
The number jumped to 16,253 in July, and doubled to 33,015 in August.
Two people died in April, four in June, 24 in July, and 10 in August, according to IEDCR.
