A total of 399 children, including eight male children, were victims of rape and attempted rape in the last six months of this year, said Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF).
Of them, 16 victims, including a boy, died after being raped, while 44 children were victims of attempted rape.
Additionally, 49 children, including 2 male children, were subjected to sexual harassment.
Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) disclosed the information in a press release on Monday.
MJF, a non-government and non-profit organization which works with local organizations to improve the well-being of poor and marginalized communities, collected the data reviewing 408 reports published in six national daily newspapers.
Expressing grave concern about the alarming increase in child rapes across the country, the organization’s Executive Director Shaheen Anam urged the government to take immediate and effective measures to end sexual harassment and violence against children.
He also urged the government to set up local committees across the country to prevent rape and other forms of sexual harassment.
