The Jatiya Party chairman is being treated at CMH for several infections
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad will be taken to Singapore for medical care, said Jatiya Party Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga.
He made the disclosure at an emergency party meeting held at its Banani office on Wednesday.
Ranga said: “As his condition is showing signs of improvement, we have decided after discussions with party leaders, that the former president will be flown to Singapore for medical care.”
The former military ruler has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver and kidney problems, high bilirubin. and serious knee pain.
The physical condition of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), has remained critical but stable for three days now.
Earlier on Wednesday, Jatiya Party Acting Chairman GM Quader said the functioning of the former president's lungs and kidneys has improved slightly, citing CMH physicians.
He said this in briefing media at the party chairman's Banani office.
GM Quader said: "Around 11am (Wednesday), I went to CMH to see him and put my fingers on his forehead for a while. He opened his eyes and listened to me."
He (Quader) also urged the people to pray for his brother's swift recovery and well-being.
Ershad, now 89, was given oxygen support when his health condition deteriorated on Sunday.
On June 27, Ershad was admitted to CMH in Dhaka. He is being treated there for several infections.
