The third game was brutal for the Tigers as hosts England defeated Bangladesh comprehensively at Cardiff. Bangladesh’s bowling performance was poor and their ground fielding was also sloppy in the match
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza said the team is staying positive even after losing their last two games and is eying to play better cricket against Sri Lanka in their next match at the Bristol County Ground today.
Bangladesh have started the tournament defeating South Africa in their very first match. They made a good fight against New Zealand in the second match but eventually lost it.
The third game was brutal for the Tigers as hosts England defeated Bangladesh comprehensively at Cardiff. Bangladesh’s bowling performance was poor and their ground fielding was also sloppy in the match.
A lot of discussion went on social media among fans regarding the team selection and why captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza opted to bowl first against England among other issues.
But captain Mashrafe believes the team is in a good position ahead of their next game and believes the team needs to focus on their game rather than thinking about the on-going discussions on social media and other platforms. `
“I am still thinking positively. Even the players are positive as well. It’s important for me to keep all other thoughts and discussions away from the dressing room. Actually as a nation we are emotional. There are lots of expectation and demand of immediate success in every match. Like Tamim has to score hundred in every match or Mahmudullah has to play an explosive innings in every match,” Mashrafe said during the pre-match press conference at Bristol on Monday.
“Even players sometime think in this way as well. May be they are thinking to perform their best in each and every game. Even sometime players like Tamim might think in that as well. As we said we are emotional. But it is important to keep such buzz away from dressing room. It creates pressure on players. If they can avoid it then they can play their natural game which could be beneficial for the team,” he added.
Bangladesh are eying a turnaround after two successive defeats as they face Sri Lanka in their next match in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup at the Bristol County Ground at Bristol on Tuesday https://t.co/1a6f1SXFGB#BangladeshvSriLanka #WorldCup2019— Dhaka Tribune Sports (@Sport_DT) June 10, 2019
Bangladesh have success against Sri Lanka in the recent past as they have won quite a few ODIs in last two years. Sri Lanka (ninth) are even in the lower position in the ranking compare to Bangladesh (seventh). But Mashrafe believes past record will not help them to win tomorrow and they need to play best cricket to win.
“We should concentrate in tomorrow’s match. Whatever happened in the past, we should not think about it. Even before the England match many people said we had won two previous World Cup matches against England and that did not help us in the England match this year. So in tomorrow’s match we have to play hard and work hard to achieve win,” said Bangladesh skipper.
“There is no chance to relax in the World Cup. In first three matches we have played against such opponents who are used to with this kind of conditions. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka both are Asian team and both are focusing on picking two points from the match. Both the teams are kind of similar and equal. Whoever plays better in the field will win tomorrow,” Mashrafe concluded.
