Shakib al Hasan informed that he had to convince everyone that he can bat at No 3 and be successful
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan said he had to convince almost everyone that he can bat at the No 3 position.
The No 3 position is always crucial for any team in every format, and Bangladesh struggled with this spot in the last few years as they tinkered with different options.
Shakib started to bat in the No 3 spot for Bangladesh around 18 months ago and since then, he is batting at that position in the 50-over format.
Shakib is in blistering form in the last few ODIs.
He struck a brilliant 121-run innings off 119 deliveries, but his individual effort was not enough for the Tigers as they chased 387 against England at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff Saturday.

Prior to this match, Shakib’s last five ODI innings for the Tigers at the No 3 position were 64 against New Zealand, 75 against South Africa, 50 not out against Ireland, 29 against the West Indies and 61 again against the Windies.
But Shakib informed that he had to convince everyone that he can bat at No 3 and be successful.
“Batting at No 3 is different and a new challenge to me, considering that I used to bat at No 5. You have to face different challenges to achieve more. I am enjoying this challenge at the moment. I wanted to contribute more for the team with the bat. It was my decision to bat at No 3. And I had to convince everyone (smiles). Because if I couldn’t score runs in one or two matches in that No 3 position then everyone might think that I need to get back at No 5 again. So I had to convince a lot of people, and it’s working for me at No 3,” Shakib said to the media after their match against England.
The Tigers opted to bowl first and England posted a huge total of 386 in their innings.
When questioned whether it was the right decision to opt to field, Shakib said it was a combined decision by the team.

He also gave credit to the England batsmen for their batting brilliance.
“It was a combined decision of opting to bowl first. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We are disappointed with the result and also the way we bowled. I think we bowled well against South Africa and New Zealand in our first two matches. We expected better bowling performance (against England), but unfortunately that did not happen,” said Shakib.
“Credit goes to England batsmen. Their openers started brilliantly and the way Jos Buttler batted in the end was probably the turning point of the game. We knew it would be tough against England as they are a very strong batting side. We had to take regular wickets to restrict them from scoring big. We could not manage to take wickets and eventually they registered a huge total,” he concluded.
Bangladesh will travel to Bristol today where they will face Sri Lanka Tuesday.
