Metropolitan Magistrate Akbar Hossain Mridha had passed the order

A Chittagong court on Tuesday sent Saraipara Ward Councillor Saber Ahmed to jail in connection with the murder of Chhatra League leader Mohiuddin Sohel.

Metropolitan Magistrate Akbar Hossain Mridha had passed the order having rejected the bail petition said Fakhruddin Chowdhury, Metropolitan Public Prosecutor.

On January 7, the former Chhatra League leader Mohiuddin Sohel was lynched by an angry mob at the Pahartali Railway Market of the city for alleged extortion.

Sohel's family members later claimed at a press briefing that his murder was premeditated.

Shakirul Islam Shishir, Sohel's younger brother, filed a case with the Double Mooring police station accusing 27 named and 150 unnamed people.

They also claimed that Mohiuddin was targeted as he raised his voice against irregularities and other crimes in the market area.
