Nusrat murder: Another accused Poppy confesses to crime

Another accused in the sensational Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case, Umme Sultana Poppy, has given statements before a court confessing to the crime. 

Feni Senior Judicial Magistrate Sharaf Uddin recorded her statements from 4pm to 9:30pm on Friday.

In her statements, Poppy said she was directly involved in the killing. On the day of the event, Poppy called Nusrat to the roof of the madrasa building where a group of people, including herself, set Nusrat on fire.

Confirming the matter, Md Iqbal, superintendent of police (SP) of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Chittagong division, said: "Poppy has confessed to the crime saying tat she directly participated in the killing."

On Friday, The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) detained Awami League’s Sonagazi upazila unit President Ruhul Amin for questioning in the Nusrat murder case.

Nusrat murder case Investigation Officer Md Shah Alam (PBI) said: “Ruhul is one of the 12 people who has been implicated in the April 6 attack on Nusrat based on the confessional statements of two of the accused - Nur Uddin and Shamim - in the case."

A total of 18 people have been arrested in the case so far. Of them, four of the accused - Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Abdul Kader - gave confessional statements before court.

Alim examinee Nusrat was set ablaze on the roof of the madrasa on April 6 morning by four burqa-clad assailants after she refused to withdraw the case against Sirajuddaula.

The 18-year-old, with 80% burns on her body, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10 after battling death for five days.
