The academy’s announcement of only four winners raised some eyebrows in the literary circle
The Bangla Academy on Monday announced the names of the winners of its Literary Award 2018.
This year’s winners are: Kazi Rosy in poetry category, Afsan Chowdhury in literature on Liberation War category, Dr MA Mohit Kamal in fiction category, and Syed Mohammad Shahed in research and essay.
Bangla Academy Director General poet Habibullah Sirazi read out the names of the four awardees at a press briefing in the Shaheed Munier Choudhury conference room on the Bangla Academy premises.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the award to the winners during the inauguration ceremony Ekushey Book Fair at the Burdwan House premises, where the academy is housed, on February 1.
The academy’s announcement of only four winners raised some eyebrows in the literary circle as in last two years, the academy picked 12 (in 2017) and 11 (in 2016) names for the prestigious award.
Having been introduced in 1960, the Bangla Academy Sahitya Puroshkar (Literary Award) is annually awarded to individuals for their contribution to the advancement of Bangla literature in various categories.
