73rd UNGA: PM to brief media Wednesday

The press conference will be held at her official residence Ganabhaban at 4pm

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will brief the media about the outcomes of her recent visit to the United States to attend the 73rd UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

The press conference will be held at her official residence Ganabhaban at 4pm, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister went to the USA on September 21 and returned home on October 1, reports UNB.

During her visit to the USA, Sheikh Hasina delivered the country statement at the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in Bangla. She demanded immediate and effective implementation of the agreement concluded between Myanmar and the UN over the settlement of ongoing Rohingya crisis.

On the sidelines of the UNGA sessions, the Prime Minister attended a number of high-level events and placed some specific proposals in continuation of her previous five-point proposal for resolving the Rohingya crisis.

Sheikh Hasina had a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and attended a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also met her at her hotel suite in New York.

The Prime Minister also held bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders and heads of international organizations, including Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, Dutch Queen Maxima and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Dr Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen.

During the tour, the Prime Minister was awarded with “International Achievement Award” by Inter Press Service, a global news agency, for her dynamic and farsighted leadership in addressing Rohingya crisis while Global Hope Coalition conferred her “2018 Special Recognition for Outstanding Leadership Award.”

She also addressed a press conference and attended a reception accorded to her by the Bangladesh community in the United States.
