Dhaka celebrated the success of producing 20,000MW power by lighting fireworks

To celebrate the success of 20,000 megawatt power generation capacity, Dhaka city was lit up with fireworks on Friday night. 

State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the celebration at the Gulshan-end of Hatirjheel. The festival was also took place in Dhaka’s Sadarghat and Bashundhara Residential Area.

Nasrul Hamid said: “When the incumbent government took office in 2009, power generation was only at 4,942MW, which has now been upgraded to 20,000MW. It is remarkable achievement within only 10 years.” 

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Power and Energy Week, a fair on electricity equipment and associated businesses with a theme of Anirban Agami (Indomitable Future) at Bashundhara Convention Centre. 

Regarding the fair, the prime minister said: “Bangladesh's power generation capacity has now reached 20,000 MW with the total number of consumers exceeding 30 million from 18 million about 10 years ago.” 

The Bangladesh government is planning to generate 24,000MW by 2021, 40,000MW by 2030, and 60,000MW electricity by 2041.
