The victim says her step-sister collaborated with the rapists
A young woman, who came to Dhaka for work, has been allegedly gang-raped by four men at her step-sister’s residence.
An unidentified man, suspected as one of the rapists, dropped the 25-year-old woman at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), on Monday morning, and fled.
Members of the DMCH police outpost immediately took her to the emergency room. She was later transferred to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC).
OSCC Coordinator Dr Bilkis Begum said the victim was sent to the gynaecology department because she was bleeding.
“She gave us her name and address. She said she had separated from her husband. The victim has a son. She came to Dhaka a week ago after leaving her son in the care of her parents in Chandpur’s Faridganj,” the doctor said.
The victim came to her step sister’s residence in Gulistan. “She was raped by four men on Sunday night with the assistance of her step sister. One of the rapists left her at the DMCH,” Dr Bilkis said.
“She is a victim of gang-rape,” the doctor said. “We have collected DNA samples. The girl is being treated at the gynaecology department.”
Bilkis said the woman has been shifted to OSCC.
Shahbagh police station’s Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan said they had assigned a team of policewomen. “We will go to the scene of the rape once she recovers and take further action.”
