Actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed has been detained for spreading “fake news” on social media about the student protests for road safety. She was taken from Uttara to the RAB 1 office on Saturday, August 4, confirmed Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Commanding Office (CO) Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem.
On Saturday afternoon, Nawshaba went on Facebook live claiming one student had been blinded and two killed during the protests earlier that day. Her claims were not backed up by proof, creating a controversy.
On the since-deleted Facebook live post, Nawshaba said: “In Jigatola, one younger brother (student protester) has been blinded and twohave been killed. They were attacked just now. Chhatra League men did this. Please, please save them (the students). They are in Jigatola. I request you take to the streets and take your childrenback to a safe location. They are not safe. Please do something. Please unite. As a citizen of this country, I’m requesting this.”
On Saturday, students blocked the streets of Dhaka for the sixth consecutive day, protesting the death of two students who were killed by a bus on Airport Road on July 29.
