Go for direct actions to remove extortion, tender-grabbing, muscle power, militancy, and drug abuse, the prime minister directed deputy commissioners at a three-day conference

To eliminate crime from society, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday asked all deputy commissioners (DCs) to take strict measures against extortion, tender-grabbing, muscle power, militancy, and drug trading.

“Do not look at who belongs to which party,” said the prime minister. “Just go for direct action.”

She made the comments while laying out a 23-point directive during the inauguration of a three-day conference of deputy commissioners at her office, reports UNB.

Hasina also instructed the deputy commissioners to contact her or her office directly if anyone tries to prevent them from performing their duties.

“I am giving you permission to get in touch with me, or my office directly,” she said. “We will take the matter under consideration.”

The prime minister said her government wants to root out all evil acts that are prevailing in the country. “We want to ensure peace and security for the people,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina also asked the DCs to look after the government’s development programs across the country for the benefit of the masses.

“We have undertaken development programs at the cost of a lot of money,” she said. “You [DCs] need to oversee whether these programs are being properly implemented. The people of this country will benefit from your care.”

The prime minister asked the DCs to continue working for the socioeconomic development of the country. “I hope you will engage your creativity and talents in maintaining the country’s development,” she said.

Hasina upheld a 23-point directive for the DCs, and told them to be more active in implementing development programs.

She also asked them to remain vigilant so common people are not harassed and deprived of their rights when it comes to availing government services.

The prime minister said the ongoing drug drives will ensure a better future for the youth of the country. She directed the DCs to work with greater sincerity for maintaining peace, discipline, and stability in every sphere of life with the eradication of militancy and communalism.

State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadeque, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam, and Principal Secretary to the prime minister’s office M Nojibur Rahman also gave speeches at the event.

The divisional commissioner of Rajshahi and deputy commissioners of Naogaon, Chuadanga, and Munshiganj districts also addressed the program. Cabinet members, the prime minister’s advisers, and secretaries of different ministries and divisions were also present.
