Women’s activist organization Naripokkho has condemned the attacks by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on quota reform demonstrators on June 30 and July 2.

The organization made the statement in a press release on July 3 after members of the BCL attacked quota reform demonstrators at universities across the country on June 30and in the central Shahid Minar and Shahbaghareas of Dhaka on July 2.

Even women were not spared the physical assault of the assailants, according to the organization.

Moreover, instead of university or law enforcement authorities punishing the aggressors, police have been arresting and harassing the protesters themselves.

Known as the “Oxford of the East”, Dhaka University’s impression and prestige gets affected when its students behave this way. These attacks are the result of a rampant practice of unruly and unlawful behaviour, and is a mark of the failure of the authorities to maintain peace, Naripokkho’s press release claimed.

The NGO urged the authorities concerned to take immediate action against the perpetrators.
