Life expectancy for women is now 73.5 years, slightly higher than men
The life expectancy of the people of Bangladesh has increased to 72 years in 2017 from 71.6 years in 2016, according to a report by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal inaugurated the “Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2017” report publication ceremony at the BBS building at Dhaka’s Agargaon on Wednesday.
In this report, the life expectancy of men in 2017 was 70.6 years, as opposed to 70.3 in 2016, and that of women increased from 72.9 years in 2016 to 73.5 in 2017.
Since independence, the average life expectancy has grown by almost 25 years.
BBS Director General Amir Hossain presided over the program, with Saurendra Nath Chakrabhartty, acting secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division, present as special guest.
