Chhatra League leader sent to jail in extortion case

On April 4, Principal of Chittagong Science College Jahed Khan filed an extortion case of Tk20 lakh against the BCL leader with the city’s Chawkbazar police station.

A Chittagong court sentenced a former general secretary of the Chittagong unit of Chhatra League to prison after he surrendered before the court in an extortion case.

Nurul Azim Rony, the Chhatra League leader, was sent to jail after Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Osman Gani rejected his bail petition.

On April 4, Principal of Chittagong Science College Jahed Khan filed an extortion case of Tk20 lakh against the BCL leader with the city’s Chawkbazar police station.

Lawyer of the plaintiff Sheikh Iftikher Shimul Chowdhury said: "Rony obtained bail for a period of one month from the High Court. After the period was over, he appealed for bail after appearing before a lower court.

"However, the court rejected his petition," said Shimul.

Assistant Police Commissioner (Prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kazi Shahabuddin confirmed the incident, saying: "Rony was sent to jail after his bail petition was rejected."
