IUB wins United Asian Debating Championship 2018

They successfully won the grand finals against Institute of Business Administration (IBA)-University of Dhaka B team

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) debating club has defied the odds by winning the title of “United Asian Debating Championship 2018,” which concluded on Saturday in Bandung, Indonesia. The winning team comprised of Aaqib Farhan Hossain, Nabil Hasan and Zobayer Ahmed.

They successfully won the grand finals against Institute of Business Administration (IBA)-University of Dhaka B team, who have recently won a national championship.

Earlier in the quarters IUB A team knocked out IBA-DU A team; the IBA team had debaters who reached the open quarters of the “World Universities Debating Championship 2018” in Mexico.

Aaqib and Nabil are both students of the masters program on development communication at IUB. They have completed their graduation from BRAC University. Zobayer is the youngest member of their team and currently is completing his undergrad on computer science and engineering.

The IUB debating club contingent also had Sajid Safwan, former president of the club and a national champion along with Archi Ananya and Sonaly Siddiki, who were all representing their club as adjudicators for the tournament. Fardeen Ameen, who is also a former president of the IUB debating club, also reached the knockout round of the tournament, while representing the North South University A team.
