Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh, KM Nurul Huda, handed a check of Tk5.5 lakh to the family of police inspector Md Moslem Uddin, who died on duty during the general election of Chinadula union parisad of Islamzpur upazila of Jamalpur district.
Moslem Uddin's daughter Monira Parvin and her husband Lutfur Rahman received the check from Nurul Huda in his Agargaon Election Office chamber on Sunday.
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, Joint-Secretary (law) Md Selim Mia and other high officials of EC were present at the time.
Daughter of the deceased, Monira, said that Moslem was in possession of the ballot box after the general election on May 23, 2017, when he faced a barricade staged by supporters of the candidates.
She said: “At that point, the two groups clashed and the police fired shots in order to safeguard the ballot box.”
Moslem suffered a stroke in the middle of the conflict and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty, said Monira.
