Rapists should be killed right away, just like the militants are killed, said Jatiya Party (JaPa) lawmaker Kazi Firoz Rashid.
“The people of the country want to see rapists tried immediately. A rapist of a nine-year old girl was killed in a recent gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). I think those RAB officials should be rewarded,” he told parliament on Tuesday.
Referring to Sunday night's incident where a woman was gang-raped aboard a moving bus in Dhamrai, the lawmaker said: “It is true that the accused rapist was arrested, but I am sure he will never face the trial.
“If women cannot commute safely and if they fall prey to gang rape, the state and the government cannot remain oblivious and turn a blind eye to such issues,” the JaPa lawmaker added.
“Incidents of rape and sexual assault are taking place virtually every day, and the perpetrators are getting away with their crimes. We cannot let this trend continue anymore.
“As justice is delayed, perpetrators are escaping through loopholes in the existing law,” Firoz said. “Rapists should be put on crossfire.”
