Education minister: Steps taken to prevent question leaks
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said that all the steps that can realistically be taken to prevent question paper leaks and other illegal exam-related activities have been ensured this year. "We are hoping there will be no question leaks," said Nahid. "If anyone does this, we hope to identify and bring that individual to book." He made these comments while visiting the HSC examinations center in Siddheswari Girl's College in Dhaka today. He further said: "The set codes of the exams were sent to the Centre Secretary 25 minutes before the exams started. The exam questions were then distributed according to the set codes. Since the question paper packets are taped, it will be evident if anyone tampers with them." The education minister said that as per rules, examinees have entered the centres 30 minutes before the exams started. "Only 10 candidates entered this centre [Siddheswari Girl's College] after a few minutes' delay," said Nahid. "We have noted down their names, address, hall no and other information. Anyone who seems suspicious will be kept under scrutiny." When asked whether MCQ questions will be discarded or not, the education minister replied: "Primary discussions have been started on the topic. There is public sentiment to be considered in this case." About keeping coaching centres open during the examinations, Nahid assured that the Education Ministry, law enforcement agencies and ICT Ministry are working together to keep all kinds of unlawful activities under control. "We have had to increase seats in villages due to the increasing number of candidates," said Nahid. "We have ensured the maximum amount of security in every centre, which was very tough. If anyone still leaks questions, that individual will be given the maximum punishment." This article was first published on banglatribune.com
