Missing NDB chairman Mehedi returns home
Momin Mehedi, a columnist and the chairman of Natun Dhara Bangladesh (NDB), a political party, has returned home, nine days after his disappearance. Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, his wife and NDB Senior Vice Chair Shanta Farzana said her husband was found lying on the ground near their Segunbagicha home in Dhaka on Saturday morning. Local people helped him reach home, she added. Quoting Mehedi, Farzana said some unknown people blindfolded and abducted him from the middle of a road in Segunbagicha on the night of March 15. As Mehdi did not return home on that day, his family filed a general diary (GD) with Shahbagh police station, urging law enforcers to find his whereabouts. Farzana said kidnappers tortured Mehedi physically and mentally, and shaved his hair off before releasing him on Saturday. Mehedi said he heard the kidnappers asking one another whether he was an agent of any foreign intelligence agencies.  They were also heard whispering about whether they should kill him or release him unscathed, he said, adding that he could not recognize them as he was blindfolded all the time. Shanta said Mehedi is undergoing treatment as he fell unconscious upon returning home, due to physical and mental weakness. Abul Hassan, officer-in-charge of the police station, said they were looking into the incident and trying to find those involved.
