President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara on his 98th birth anniversary.
A smartly turned out contingent of the armed forces gave a guard of honour as the president and the prime minister paid their respect on Saturday morning.
The duo also offered special prayers for the departed soul of Bangabandhu. The president signed the guest book at the mausoleum premises.
Later, Sheikh Hasina paid another tribute as the president of the ruling party Awami League.
She was followed by a delegation of central Awami League leaders, led by the party’s General Secretary and also Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader.

Senior leaders of Awami League and its associate organizations were present during the event, along with representatives from various social, cultural, professional and workers’ organizations.
Earlier in the morning, the prime minister arrived at the mausoleum at 9:50am. After his arrival at Tungipara around 10am, the president was greeted by the prime minister.
Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend a number of programs in Gopalganj as the chief guest on this day (March 17).
She is also scheduled to inaugurate a book fair organized by the National Book Centre, and a postage stamp commemorating Sheikh Russel.
Later, the prime minister will unveil a book titled “Amader Choto Russel Sona Shishu.” She is scheduled to return to Dhaka from Tungipara later on Saturday evening.
The birthday of Bangabandhu is being observed across the country as the National Children's Day.
