The Awami League and its affiliate organizations have chalked out different programs to celebrate the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Saturday.
Bangabandhu was born on March 17, 1920 in Tungipara village of Gopalganj district.
The day is a public holiday and is also observed as National Children’s Day, as Bangabandhu enjoyed spending time with children on his birthday.
As a part of the celebration, the national flag will be hoisted atop the Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi and all party offices at 6:30am.
At 7am, leaders of Awami League and its affiliate organizations will place a floral wreath before Bangabandhu’s portrait at Bangabandhu Museum, which occupies the site of his old house in Dhanmondi Road 32.
At around 10am, a delegation of Awami League led by Prime Minister and party president Sheikh Hasina will place a floral wreath at the grave of her father.
In Tungipara, the local Awami League unit will hold a doa-mahfil program in the afternoon.
A book fair and a cultural event will also be held on the premises of Bangabandhu’s ancestral home.
On Sunday, the Awami League will arrange a discussion on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's life and philosophy at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will chair the program.
