Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said it is important for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to overcome her legal troubles and take part in the 11th parliamentary election.
His remarks came at a meeting on the role of law enforcement during the upcoming Brahmanbaria 1 constituency (Nasirnagar) by-polls at the Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner's office on Thursday.
The CEC said: “Every election has been fair since this Election Commission took office. No one has questioned about the validity of the proceedings that toko place. We hope the Nasirnagar by-election will follow suit.”
“We hope BNP and all other political parties will take part in the next national polls. We have previously spoken to other parties and want every election to be worth participating in. The commission will not take any new initiatives in this regard,” he added.
Thursday's meeting was also attended by Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Rezwanur Rahman, Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shankar Ranjan Saha, BGB Comilla Sector Commander Col Zobair Hasnat, Brahmanbaria's Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, and other officials from district and upazila administrations.
