Bangla Academy announces ‘Gunijon Sahitya Puroskar’ winners list
Bangla Academy has announced the list of winners of its “Gunijon Sahitya Puroskar,” chosen from among the publishing houses participating at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. The awards will be handed over to the winning houses on the month-long fair’s closing day by Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, who will attend the event on February 28 as chief guest. Prothoma, the publications arm of leading vernacular daily Prothom Alo, will receive the “Chittaranjan Saha Smriti Puroskar,” while “Munier Chowdhury Smriti Puraskar 2018” will be given for the publication of aesthetically rich and standard content in books published in 2017. The award will be received by Somoy Publication for Moin Ahmed's “Mini Bishyo Kosh,” Bengal publication for Alokananda's “Prithibir Pathe Hete,” Journey Books publication for Sufi Mostafizur Rahman's "Bangladesher Protnotattik Uttoradhikar.” The “Rokonuzzaman Khan Dadabhai Smriti Puraskar” will be awarded to the Chndrabati Academy for publishing excellent books for kids while “Qayyum Chowdhury Smriti Puraskar” will be given to Kotha Prakash for the best interior design which is aesthetically rich. The authorities have allotted a total of 719 units - 136 at the Bangla Academy ground to 92 organizations and 583 at the Suhrawardy Udyan to 363 organizations. Last year, the authorities allotted a total of 663 units - 114 at the Bangla Academy ground to 80 organizations and 549 at Suhrawardy Udyan to 329 organizations. Besides, 24 pavilions (15,536 square feet) have been allocated to 24 publishing houses, including Bangla Academy, while last year, 15 pavilions were allocated to 14 houses, including Bangla Academy. Publishers from across the country are exhibiting a huge number of books on different issues while Bangla Academy is exhibiting 141 newly printed and reprinted books. A newly launched website and apps have been providing the information about the book fair. The fair will remain open every day from 3pm to 9pm.
