14 killed in road crashes across Bangladesh
At least 14 people have been killed in separate road accidents at different districts across the country. The mishaps, which also left around 30 others injured, occurred between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, reports UNB. In Panchagarh, two motorcycle riders were killed after a collision with a truck on Tetulia-Panchagarh Highway’s Barrister Bazar area under the Sadar Upazila on Thursday evening. Sadar police OC Rabiul Islam said the accident took place around 8pm, killing both men on the spot. The deceased were identified as Nuruzzaman Khan, 40, and Mahbubur Rahman Jony, 23. In Gopalganj, three people were killed in a head-on a collision between a bus and a microbus on Dhaka-Khulna Highway’s Gopinathpur area under the Sadar upazila in the evening. Two of the deceased were identified as Jewel Ahmmed, 24, and Imran Mollah, 20. Gopinathpur police investigation camp Inspector Hazrat Ali said the accident took place around 5:45pm when the ‘Imad Paribahan’ bus collided with the microbus carrying three passengers, killing the two on spot and leaving another man injured. He was admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. In Shariatpur, at least three people were also killed and seven others injured when a truck carrying them plunged into a ditch in Basudevpur village in Vedarganj upazila Thursday afternoon. Vedarganj police station OC Mehedi Hasan said the Shariatpur-bound truck carrying construction materials and 10 labourers from Chandpur fell into the ditch in front of Narayanpur Government Primary School around 2:30pm, leaving three dead on the spot. He said two of them were identified as Saddam Hossain, 22, and Halim Hossain, 22, while the identity of the other could not be known immediately. The injured were admitted to Vedarganj Health Complex for treatment, Mehedi added. In Nilphamari, a motorcyclist was killed and two others injured in a collision with a bus at Sadar upazila’s Chanderhat area in the morning. Nilphamari Sadar police OC Babul Akhter said the accident took place around 9:45am, leaving one Abu Taher, 25, dead on the spot. The injured were first taken to Sadar Modern Hospital and then shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their condition worsened. On Wednesday, Five people, including a woman and three teenage boys, were killed in two road accidents in Rangpur and Sherpur. In Rangpur, three people, including a woman and a boy, were killed and 19 others injured when a Rangpur-bound bus collided head-on with a pickup at Ekorchali in Taraganj upazila in the evening. Taraganj police OC Zinat Ali said the accident had left 22 people injured, who were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Three of them succumbed to their injuries there, he said. Two of the deceased were identified as Shahabuddin, 50, and Oli Ahmad Shejan, 12. In Sherpur, two teenage boys were killed and another was injured when a pickup hit their motorcycle at Chaitajani in Sreebardi upazila around 2pm Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Rian Hossian, 15, and Bappi Miah, 16. Sreebardi police station OC Md Rezaul Haque said the accident took place around 2pm, leaving three boys badly injured. They were taken to Sherpur District Hospital where Rian succumbed to his injuries. Bappi died when he was being moved to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
