The director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has promised to ensure the safety of city dwellers from the early hours of February 21.
RAB DG Benazir Ahmed made the statement on Tuesday after observing the security measures taken at Central Shaheed Minar.
He said for security reasons, they will not disclose all the measures that have been taken but the elite force will deliver to their full potential to ensure security from the early hours of February 21.
The DG said a comprehensive security net has been arranged for the Shaheed Minar in Dhaka and all over the country. Security at Central Shaheed Minar will be provided dividing the area in five sectors, he added.
Alongside RAB members in motorcycles and cars, plain clothed police will also be present at the venue. Besides, the whole area will be monitored through CCTV cameras and watch towers. Bomb disposal unit, dog squad, sweeping force and special striking force will also work to provide security at the Central Shaheed Minar, he added.
RAB DG further said: “We are vigilant in stopping any terrorist threats near the Shaheed Minar premises and we are taking all necessary steps for that.”
When asked if there is any security threat surrounding the International Mother Language Language Day, the Benazir said: “There is no specific threat but we are being careful. We have been in communication with national intelligence agencies and we are coordinating with them to ensure the safety of all.”
