Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said no one is more fitting as president than Abdul Hamid, and hence the ruling party has nominated him for the upcoming presidential election.
He made the remark while talking to journalists after submitting the nomination paper on behalf of Md Abdul Hamid to Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda at the Election Commission secretariat in Dhaka on Monday.
Obaidul said: "He is not a president for a party, but for the country."

When asked about the party's expectation from the president, Obaidul said: "We will be happy if he (the president) fulfills all the expectations of the citizens of the country."
Earlier on Friday, a five-member Awami League delegation, led by Chief Whip ASM Feroz, picked up the documents on behalf of Abdul Hamid from the returning officer’s office at the Election Commission.
Later, they handed over the papers to Hamid at the Bangabhaban.
On January 31, the ruling party nominated Hamid as its candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
Hamid, who is currently serving as the 20th president of Bangladesh, will complete his five-year term on April 23.
