A Bangladeshi cattle trader has been tortured to death by Border Security Force (BSF) of India along the Shingnagar frontier in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, son of late Amzad Ali of Panditpara village in the upazila.
Locals BSF members from the Daulatpur camp detained and tortured Shariful inhumanly as he went to the border near pillar no. 171 early Saturday to bring cattle from India.
He managed to escape with severe injuries.
His family took him to a private clinic in Rajshahi city where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
Shariful later succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH on Saturday night, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station in Rajshahi town.
The deceased’s autopsy was done at the hospital on Sunday, he added.
