The Election Commission (EC) has published the final voter list ahead of the next national election.
“A total of 10,41,42,381 voters have been included in the list,” the commission’s acting Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed told reporters on Wednesday.
Of the 104.1 million voters, 50.42% are male and 49.58% female.
There has been an increase of 2.7 million voters, Helaluddin said adding that people can enlist themselves in the voter list throughout the year.
The next national election will likely take place in December this year. The legal age for voting in Bangladesh is 18.
Teenagers attaining the legal voting age before the declaration of schedule for the next general election will be allowed to exercise their franchise.
“However, once the schedule is declared, a person can get their names on the voter list with Election Commission’s permission,” the acting secretary added.
When asked what the Election Commission was doing to enlist migrants, who had missed the opportunity, on the voter list, he said: “We are prioritizing them.”
“We do not want to deprive anyone of their right to exercise their franchise,” the Election Commission official said.
