Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has firmly stated that the recent unrest at Dhaka University campus is an internal matter of the institution.
Kamal made the statement after attending a program at a school in Moghbazar area of Dhaka.
“We will not tolerate any attempts to create indiscipline there. Those engaging in subversive activities will face stern legal action,” the minister told the media.
On Tuesday, a group of Dhaka University students besieged the office of the vice-chancellor demanding that the university’s affiliation with seven colleges be scrapped.
They also sought punishment of the Chhatra League activists who were involved in harassing some of the female students.

Their other demands included withdrawal of a case filed against unknown Dhaka University students and removal of the university’s proctor.
However, Bangladesh Chhatra League activists allegedly attacked the students who had the vice-chancellor (VC) under a siege for around four hours.
The indiscriminate attack left at least 30 students injured, including 10 in critical condition. They are all being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the university medical centre.
Earlier on January 15, some Chhatra League activists foiled a demonstration of the students who were staging a sit-in in front of the vice-chancellor’s office and assaulted some female students.
