Conference on registration of vital information held in Gazipur

A pilot CRVS project has been implemented in Kaliganj upazila

An international conference on civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) has been concluded in Kaliganj upazila, Gazipur. A total of 27 representatives from 12 countries took part in the conference, held at Kaliganj Upazila Parishad conference room on Wednesday. CRVS is a system to register births and deaths as well as keep records of vital statistics of an individual's life, including marriages, divorces and cause of death. A pilot CRVS project has been implemented in Kaliganj upazila. Health and family welfare workers at the union parishad level are currently helping the people for registering births and death withing 45 days. Speaking about the project, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Dr Dewan Mohamman Humayun Kabir said although six categories of information – birth, death, cause of death, marriage, divorce and adoption of a child – are being currently registered under the CRVS globally, two more categories – displacement and education – have been incorporated for the system in Bangladesh.
