The Awami League, its associate bodies, and other socio-cultural organizations have chalked out elaborate programs to observe historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Wednesday.
The National Flag and the party flag of Awami League will be hoisted atop party offices across the country and at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka around 6:30am.
Leaders and activists of the ruling party will pay tribute to Bangabandhu by placing floral wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi around 7am.
The Awami League will also hold a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After passing some 290 days in captivity in a Pakistani jail during the 1971 Liberation War, Bangabandhu returned home on this day in 1972.
Nearly 500,000 people from all walks of life flocked to the old Dhaka airport at Tejgaon to greet the architect of Bangladesh’s independence and catch a glimpse of him.
