Update : 01 Jan 2018, 12:12 PM
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Nojibur Rahman has been appointed as the principal secretary to the prime minister. Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday. The 58-year-old Nojibur will replace Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, whose tenure will end on December 31. Kamal, appointed principal secretary on November 27 last year, was set to retire in December the same year. But he accepted the offer of a one-year contractual appointment. According to the state’s warrant of precedence, the status of a principal secretary is equal to a cabinet secretary, the highest ranking civil servant in the land. However, according to serial, the principal secretary’s name comes afterwards. Nojibur , a member of the 1982 regular civil service batch, was the senior secretary at the Internal Resource Division prior to becoming the chairman of the revenue service. He also served as the secretary of Environment and Forests Ministry, Statistics and Informatics Division and as the director general of Department of Environment. Nojibur is scheduled to go into the leisure period before his retirement (LPR) on December 30, 2019.
